Straight answers
The questions shippers actually ask about drayage — free time, chassis, permits, and paperwork — answered without the run-around.
01What areas do you serve?
We run container drayage out of the Port of Oakland and Northern California rail ramps, delivering across the East Bay, Central Valley, and Sacramento region from our Concord, CA base — plus OTR truckload lanes across the western states. If your lane isn't listed, ask; the answer is usually yes.
02How fast can I get a quote?
Send container details through our quote form or call dispatch and you'll typically have a firm number the same business day — often within the hour during office hours. We quote per move, not from a public rate sheet, so the price reflects your actual lane, equipment, and timing.
03What's the difference between demurrage and per-diem, and how do you help me avoid both?
Demurrage is what the terminal charges when your container sits at the port past its free time. Per-diem is what the ocean carrier charges when you keep their container/chassis too long after pickup. We track last free day on every box, pre-pull containers into our yard when appointments run tight, and return empties promptly — which is how our customers stop donating money to terminals.
04Do you supply chassis?
Yes — we coordinate chassis for every move, including tri-axle chassis for overweight containers. Chassis sourcing, splits, and flips are handled by dispatch so you never chase equipment.
05Can you handle overweight containers?
Yes. Overweight boxes move on tri-axle chassis under the proper permits along approved heavy corridors. Give us accurate cargo weight up front and we'll plan axle loads and routing so the container never gets parked at a scale.
06Are you able to move hazmat and customs-bonded freight?
Both. We handle in-bond moves (IT, T&E, IE) through licensed customs partners, and our hazmat-endorsed drivers handle placarded loads with compliant documentation. Tell us the commodity and UN number when you request the quote.
07How do I track my shipment?
Every tractor is GPS-monitored and ELD-equipped, and dispatch watches every active load. Submit a status request on our tracking page with your container, BOL, or reference number — or call for an immediate update, any hour.
08What do your drivers need to access the Port of Oakland?
Our drivers carry TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) with TSA clearance and have unrestricted access to Port of Oakland terminals. Appointments, terminal requirements, and gate procedures are handled by our dispatch team.
09Are you insured, and can I get proof?
Yes — Avtar Freightways is a licensed, fully insured carrier (MC 1169424). Certificates of insurance and authority documents are provided on request before your first move. Email Avtarfreightways@gmail.com and we'll send the packet.
10Do you work with freight forwarders and other carriers?
Constantly. Forwarders, brokers, importers, exporters, and fellow trucking companies use us as their Oakland-area drayage arm. We protect your customer relationships and your margins.

Have a container on the water?
Send the details before it hits the port. We'll have a truck, a chassis, and a plan waiting at the terminal.
